Greetings all, here is your e-votional for the week…
“Praise the Lord!
How good it is to sing praises to our God;
for he is gracious, and a song of praise is fitting.
The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
He heals the broken-hearted,
and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars;
he gives to all of them their names.
Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
his understanding is beyond measure.
The Lord lifts up the downtrodden;
he casts the wicked to the ground.”-Psalm 147: 1-6
Wait. Slow down. Read these verses of Psalm 147 again….Have you finished it? Now, let me ask you a question. Where are you in this Psalm? Think about it for a moment. Are you singing praise to God today? Are you considering the majesty of the stars in the sky? Are you in awe or in need of God’s abundant power? Are you feeling downtrodden? Have you been wicked? Where are you in this Psalm? You probably need to read it again…
Found yourself yet? Ok, good. Now, instead of my writing something inspirational or thoughtful or even banal for you, I want you to pray your way into these words. Get quiet. Let your heart get quiet. Listen….Longer. Your presence in the Psalm is good, it’s a reminder of God’s presence in your life and in this world.
Read the Psalm again. Taste the words. Hear them in your heart. How good is it to sing praises to God? Have you ever felt that good when singing to God? Do you ever actually sing to God? Consider all of the Psalm’s images in this way.
You are in God and God is in you. You are in relationship. God is in this world and in your life. God wants your praise, love and life and God is with you in abundant power. Maybe you can do more than you think.
Read the Psalm again. Slowly. Feel the words. Quiet yourself and pray to God. Begin, “Praise the Lord!” Then take it away. You are read now. Peace.
