Christian Education Programs
Children (Family Center, younger downstairs and older upstairs)
Cheerful and kid-friendly spaces greet your child in our Family Center, across the alley from our sanctuary. Here, experienced teachers welcome children into their classrooms divided by ages. Our children’s education programs focus on individual attention and focus on the faith of the individual child. For more information about children’s education at 1PC, contact the Rev. Tasha Blackburn at email@example.com.
Adult Sunday School Classes
The Apostles Class (Education Building, 3rd floor)
Led by Larry Price this class will begin a survey of the New Testament beginning in the fall. Theological questions and lively discussions are customary. We have multi-media presentations and members (approx. 25) of all ages. We make new members welcome!
Pastors’ Class (Fellowship Hall)
The Pastors’ class meets during the school year in the fellowship hall. The Revs. Blackburn take turns leading this class. It focuses on Biblical topics and Discipleship.
Other Learning Opportunities
The King Speaker’s Series
This speakers’ series, begun in the spring of 2013, features renowned Christian authors and thinkers. Since its inception 1PC has hosted Rachel Held Evans, Lauren Winner, Sarah Thebarge and Max Lucado, with many more to come!
Capstone offers classes with top-notch seminary professors and Christian leaders. In education, a capstone course is the final experience that tops off years of study. Education in our faith is never, of course, completed. Capstone is not the culmination of your Christian study but it is a building block to your next level of knowledge in the hope of heightening faith.
Alpha Bible Study
Our ALPHA Bible Study group is made up of adults who are interested in meeting monthly for a Bible Study, September-May. They meet regularly on the second Thursday of each month. Lunch is served in the Fellowship Hall following the Bible Study.
MID Bible Study
Our MID Bible Study group is made up of adults who meet for a weekly lunch hour opportunity to study God’s word together, every Wednesday at 12:00pm on the 3rd floor. Each week the group will learn about another person in the Bible, starting with the A’s and ending with the Z’s. Yes, that’s right, we will go through the whole alphabet of characters! Mary Moll has created and designed this wonderful class and all are welcome to participate any and all Wednesdays that they can.
Christian education offers several topical studies throughout the year, including Advent and Lenten studies, contemporary issue studies, guest speakers, lectionary studies and spiritual guidance. Often these classes are offered mid-week in the evening and/or mid-day.
Bible studies, other than in Sunday School, are offered through Presbyterian Women and ALPHA programs and at various times throughout the year. Members and visitors alike are invited to attend any of the classes. Bible studies are offered, some verse-by-verse and others book-by-book. Some classes use curriculum resources. All encourage open discussion, expecting and welcoming a diversity of viewpoints. Call the Church Office (783-8919) for a list of current offerings and times.
Vacation Bible School
Our Vacation Bible School offers activities such as arts and crafts and music to help the children in preschool through fifth grade learn Christian teachings in a fun way. Each summer we invite children from the church, neighbors, and friends to participate with us in a week long adventure of learning and fun.
