A Welcoming Community of Believers
First Presbyterian Church of Fort Smith is people, people committed to God and to each other as members of the body of Christ. We are people of different occupations and interests, of varied economic and social backgrounds. Christ is our common link, uniting us in a fellowship of those who want to grow together in their understanding and practice of Christian faith and life, in loving God and our neighbors.
First Presbyterian is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. It is a church of all ages. Children and Young People are an important part of our church life and have been the focus of recent ministry initiatives. Worship Services are a blend of the traditional and emerging styles both set within the Reformed Tradition.
Our doors are open to all who are seeking a church home, whatever their former affiliations. We have beautiful and well-maintained facilities and a dedicated church staff to assist members in discovering their ministries within the congregation and beyond in the community and the world. We have programs to offer you, but we also provide an opportunity to help shape and implement those programs.
Our casual service, held at 9:00 in the church’s fellowship hall, invites you to a unique style of worship. Come in, grab a cup of coffee and prepare yourself for a worship service that meets you where you are. At Day One you will find elements of traditional worship in a coffee house setting, blending a subtle liturgical movement with a modern feel. The contemporary band mixes praise songs, re-imagined traditional hymns and the occasional blue grass tune to bring forth an eclectic feel. Check out our short video below to see for yourself what makes Day One unique in Fort Smith.
The traditional service at First Presbyterian takes place in our beautiful sanctuary. Organ music reverberates amongst the century-old space, which is bathed in light filtered through magnificent stained glass. The order of worship is traditional but less rigid than you may expect. It is an ideal service to slow down, escape from the hectic nature of modern life, and gather in the presence of God in a space which has hosted such worship since the 1890s. Slip inside this special room and let the presence of God be made manifest in your life.
